Prompt 11: If you could go back in time and visit a down-on-their-luck younger version of your spouse, what would you tell them about how awesome they turn out?
Dear down-on-your-luck 25 year old Rich,
I can remember you perfectly. I know you worry about your future, about choosing a career, about being hard working and having a clear path forward, about your own insecurities and living up to your potential.
I’m so happy to be able to tell you that your future is so bright. Like most things in life, it’s not going to turn out exactly how you envision it (that whole “being a doctor” thing? you’re going to change your mind about that . . .)
You’re not going to make all your career decisions right away, but just take the next right step and everything will work out just fine.
I’ve loved watching you transform in your graduate work. You started out inexperienced and feeling behind and overwhelmed and have left confident and accomplished. Like, you win all sorts of awards (which I have to remind you of frequently because sometimes you forget about your confidence and accomplishments, but they’re still there).
Also, I’m happy to report that beyond those career concerns, the more important stuff is all working out great too. Rich, you are turning out to be an amazing husband and father. Our kids LOVE when you come home every night and still run to the door yelling “Daddy!!” I get to hear them brag to all their friends about how silly their dad is. You make them laugh until they cry sometimes playing tickle monster or throwing them on the couch or pretending to hide and having them find you.
And as for the husband stuff? Turns out you have a natural gift in this area (lucky, lucky me!) You’re attentive- you always care when I’m upset and want to make things better. You’re remarkably selfless and very, very rarely make any demands of me at all. You’re compassionate and empathetic. You go along with all my crazy goals and plans (and sheesh I have more than my fair share of those) and always support me in my aspirations. And you’re still making me laugh.
Rich my dear, you need not worry about your future. You are smart, caring, considerate, accomplished, fun and one heck of a father. I thank God I have you every single day.
Ok your turn! How would you describe how awesome your spouse turns out to a younger version of them?
Remember, even thinking it in your mind can help fill your love tank. So even if you don’t comment- think about it! And if you are joining our monthly challenge, send the answer to your spouse in a text or email or note.
Oh! And I put all of the love prompts into a handy dandy printable so you can print it out, fill them out and give all the love letters to your spouse as a gift! Perfect Valentine’s day gift! Here’s a sample of the first page:
