Celebrate the Family Proclamation Series

Introducing a new series celebrating the Family Proclamation

By Celeste

Alright, I am so excited to announce a series launching this week that has been in the works for quite some time.

This month marks the 20th anniversary of The Family: A Proclamation to the World.  In 1995, the then LDS prophet Gordon B Hinckley read this proclamation during part of a general conference of the church.  It outlines the purpose and foundation of God’s plan for families.

The Proclamation has definitely come under attack in recent years.  And I get that- some interpretations of the Proclamation are disconcerting indeed.  But I believe in it.  In fact, I strongly believe in it.  I believe it contains truths that would benefit not just my family, not just my church, but the world.  Our families can be our deepest and greatest source of happiness on earth.  On the flip side, when family life goes awry, it can be the source of our deepest and greatest sorrow.

One of the reasons I started this blog was to combat the feeling of helplessness I felt when I heard of my friends’ marital problems.  There is so much pain out there from contention and selfishness in marriage.

One of the best formulas I’ve come across for a happy marriage comes from the Family Proclamation:

“Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”

Faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work and wholesome recreational activities- each of these principles is a key ingredient to a happy and successful marriage.

And so we are going to dive into each of those principles throughout the next two weeks.  It’s series time!  I’ve got guest posts, plus a few posts of my own coming at you each weekday for the next two weeks.  Here’s a little schedule:

  • Sept 15:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by FAITH
  • Sept 16:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by PRAYER
  • Sept 17:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by REPENTANCE
  • Sept 18:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by FORGIVENESS
  • Sept 21:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by RESPECT
  • Sept 22:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by LOVE
  • Sept 23:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by COMPASSION
  • Sept 24:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by WORK
  • Sept 25:  Successful marriages are established and maintained by WHOLESOME RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

And for this series, I’m so excited to be teaming up with two other amazing bloggers-  Monserrat from Cranial Hiccups (seriously check out her post from today- SO. GOOD.) and Jocelyn from Being LDS.
